One of the first questions my engaged couples ask is “what do we have to do”? Most have a fear of forgetting something really important! For that reason I have put together a checklist to give confidence and guide them through the process.

    • Decide type of ceremony, date and time and book it
    • Choose hymns and/ or music
    • Draw up Budget and decide with the parents who will pay for what
    • Choose your wedding party; Maid of honour, Best man, Bridesmaids (adults and/or children), Flower Girls, Page boys, Ring Bearer and Ushers

  • Draw up guest list (this is traditionally done with Bride’s mother but be sure to consult the Grooms parents too – or do it by yourselves if you want)
  • Choose a venue for the reception if different from the ceremony
  • If you are planning to have one, choose a venue decorator to help you with all the details
  • Organise the entertainment for the reception (string quartet, harpist, band, disco, cabaret. To name but a few options!)
  • Decide on wedding stationery
  • Decide on the menu for the reception and evening party
  • Decide on wedding clothes for you and for your attendants
  • Choose and order your wedding cake
  • Decide on a florist and theme for your wedding
  • Choose and book the photographer
  • Decide on and book the wedding videographer
  • Buy thank you gifts for parents and attendants
  • Book the honeymoon!
  • Check on vaccinations and passports for your honeymoon destination
  • If you do not have a valid passport—ensure you have 10 weeks clear to get one! It takes at least 6 weeks to get a first adult passport, during the summer this time is often extended.
  • Look for going away clothes and clothes for honeymoon
  • Lastly, relax and have a fabulous Wedding Day and honeymoon

This may seem like a pretty long list but there are two of you and hopefully you’ve got lots of time. If not, then don’t be afraid to ask for help, many friends and relatives would love to get involved!
